The State Theatre is a heritage-listed theatre located at 47–51 Market Street in Sydney’s central business district. Designed by Henry Eli White and built between 1926 and 1929, it is a major milestone in the development of cinema in Australia. The theatre features a unique architectural composition with Gothic and French Empire inspired interiors, including a 21 Rank Wurlitzer organ and a Koh-i-Noor cut crystal chandelier. It has been the premier venue for film screenings, live theatre, and musical performances, hosting the annual Sydney Film Festival since 1974. The theatre is significant for its cultural and historical importance, reflecting the development of cinema and entertainment in Australia throughout the 20th century
